Sodality
An Experience of Marianist Community
December 03, 2007
The Marianist Sodality offers sophomores, juniors and seniors a biweekly opportunity to experience in small groups or cells a safe time to pray, learn about the life of Christ and the Marianist charism, and to plan and conduct service and apostolic work. This is a three-year program, particularly designed to grow Christian leaders for service in the world as dedicated lay people, religious and priests.
Among the service projects engaged in by Sodality units this year were a Christian music evening in a coffeehouse atmosphere, a Habitat build, and a wonderfully successful diaper collection drive for Seton Home.
A sophomore sodalist helps load some of the 10,000 diapers CCHS students donated to Seton Home, a residence helping young women and their newborn children.
Being a Marianist school, we celebrate our Marianist Heritage throughout the year, but most intensely during Marianist Heritage Week in late January. During this week the Marianist Brothers visit the religion classes, bulletin boards are focused on different areas of Marianist life, and the prayer over the loudspeaker each morning and afternoon are traditional Marianist prayers.
Each summer the leaders of Sodality, and leaders-in-training, attend the Marianist Living in Faith Experience (LIFE) Program. The LIFE Program is a leadership workshop, which teaches leadership skills in building community, but more importantly provides the students with an experience of Christian community that each student takes back to their own community. The application process will begin in January.
Sodality meetings are held during religion class every other week for sophomores and juniors who are members. Seniors, who lead the sophomores and juniors, meet weekly. Students have an opportunity to pray, study, and reflect on the Marianist Charism.
