Science Department Welcome CC Alumni for Speaker Series

Mark ChapaOn Thursday (10-13-2022), Mark Chapa gave a presentation to a room full of Central students after school.  Mark is from the class of 2004.  I first taught Mark here at Central in 2001!

Mark spent several years working as an ER nurse. He spent time discussing some of the wildest things he’s seen in the ER.  Mark covered cases dealing with broken bones, heart attacks, and even people under the influence.  Mark has clearly seen quite a bit!  Mark took the time to discuss how nurses and doctors would handle each situation.  There was obviously plenty of discussion as many of our current Central students had a lot of questions they wanted to ask.  Like a true Central brother, Mark took the time to thoroughly answer each one.

Mark did an awesome job and we are so proud of him for all that he’s accomplished.

One last thing - Mark showed up to do this presentation on his birthday!  How cool is that!

On Wednesday (10-5-2022), Dr. Matthew Gunst (CCHS class of 2009) gave a talk after school to a classroom full of Central students as part of our Science Dept. Guest Speaker Series.

Matthew is a cardiac anesthesiologist. He spent time discussing what medication he uses to put his patients under (such as various antianxiety drugs). He also spent a great deal of time teaching the boys about intubation tubes and what a cardiac bypass is. Lastly, he spent time discussing imaging. He even performed ultrasounds on the hearts and livers of many of the young men in attendance. It was awesome!

We are incredibly proud of this young man!
