Central Catholic Freshmen Take a Hike!

On Thursday (2-16-2023), freshmen students in Biology Honors with Mr. Bendele got to go on a nature hike around campus where they learned all about adaptations of many trees and shrubs growing around Central, such as huisache, sycamore, Shumard red oak, cedar elm, live oak, purple sage, red yucca, anaqua, and many others.  They also got to learn how to identify a few of the local birds, such as house sparrows.

Lastly, they got to participate in smelling the heavenly and aromatic blooms of one of the most popular trees of all in south-central Texas – the Texas mountain laurel!  Not only did the guys learn a lot, but they also had a blast!
