In the past few weeks, Central Catholic’s Science Department has been hard at work providing a fun and engaging learning experience for the young men. These hands-on activities and labs give students the chance to internalize, process, and apply the concepts learned in class.
Mr. Bendele’s Biology Honors classes learned about acids and bases, completing a pH testing lab to solidify their understanding of the material.
Ms. Jarmon’s Chemistry classes analyzed the densities of two different types of candy bars, which provided the students the chance to explore different concepts taught in this unit.
Dr. Ballesteros’ Chemistry Honors and Chemistry classes completed an escape room about the different changes and properties of matter to help prepare for an upcoming. Recently, they also performed the Flame Test Lab, where they tested various solutions and saw what color flames they produced. This lab served as an introduction into their next unit for the class.
Coach Curran’s Anatomy classes participated in a cheek cell lab, providing our students with the opportunity to view living cells and identify parts of a cell. In his Astronomy classes, the students were asked to scale down the solar system to see how they can fit it in the Historic Alumni Gym.
