In the past few months, Central Catholic’s Esports Team, the Snake Bytes, has been competing in the VANTA Tapps High School Esports League in the following games: Apex Legends, Chess, Overwatch, Fortnite, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Their opponents have been from other high schools, such as Holy Cross, Concordia Lutheran, San Juan Diego, Texoma Christian School, and Eagle Christian Academy. Here a few highlights as of October 29, 2024:
Led by Senior Jonah Hill, the Overwatch team is currently ranked 3rd out of a total of 8 teams! His team consists of Cuauh De Hoyos, Michael Castillo, Miguel Hernandez, and Kolby Cruz.
This year we have three Fortnite teams, all led by Sophomore Kai Claiborne. All three of our teams are currently ranked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place out of 12 teams from 9 different schools! The numerous players on the Fortnite teams include Kaidin Traver, Marco Vargas Reyes, Marciano Huerta, Ethan Winfrey, Joaquin Herrera, Cameron Macias, Parker Dempsey, Priyesh Patel, Andrew Keye, Matthias Ray, and Savien Medellin.
Our Super Smash Bros Ultimate Team, led by Senior Isaac Pohl, is in second place out of 15 total teams. His current team includes Kaleb Hernandez, Aidan Salazar, Raphael Avila, Cannon Castillo, Dylan Stone Ramirez, Cuauh De Hoyos, and Zachary Vrooman.
Sophomore Ben Alarcon is currently in 6th place out of a total of 17 gamers in Chess.
Cheer them on throughout the year as they continue to compete against other Esports teams in the R20 League and HSEL (High School Esports League) this year! Our first in-person competition will be on November 9th at Techport SA! Go Snake Bytes!
